Flower Power

Por fin puedo sentarme un poquito y escribir en mi blog. Han pasado meses desde la última vez que os conté algo, no me lo puedo creer. Pero, bueno, en cuanto que he terminado mis exámenes me he puesto manos a la obra con varios proyectos. Uno de ellos era un Mistery Quilt organizado por el grupo de patchwork de mi zona. Desde el mes de noviembre pasado hemos venido recibiendo instrucciones, yo no pude hacer nada durante el curso, pero en abril y mayo me he puesto las botas. Estoy superorgullosa porque he conseguido terminar mi primera colcha de cama de matrimonio.

En mayo hice un curso de acolchado libre con Anne Marie de Kilbora Quilt Shoppe, así que me puse manos a la obra enseguidita y decidí practicar todo lo que había aprendido en esta colcha. Estoy supercontenta. ¿Qué os parece el resultado?


It´s been months since I sat down at the computer to talk to you. Finally I managed to post a few pictures of my last project. This is a Mistery Quilt organised by the Irish Patchwork Society. It started last November but I only had a chance to do it once I finished my exams in April. I´m delighted I managed to keep my schedule.

As you can see from my pictures I tend to do small projects mostly cos I don´t have the time (or experience) to do anything else. So I decided to do this double quilt for my own bed. My first large project and my first free motion quilting project. I took a free motion quilting course with Anne Marie from Kilbora Quilt Shoppe  and I decided to practice on this quilt. I hope you enjoy it.

Bolso vaquero // Denim bag

Hola a todos,
Esta semana ando un poco descarrilada. Una de esas semanas locas, los niños malos, varias visitas al hospital, pero bueno, gracias a Dios todos bien y vuelta a la tarea. Hoy os quería mostrar las fotitos de un bolso que hice hace unas semanas. Este era un regalo para mi hermana y el viernes recibió el paquete así que ya lo puedo compartir con vosotros.
Hacía tiempo que tenía varios hexágonos guardados con retalitos y sobrantes de otros proyectos y de pronto encontré el proyecto perfecto. Decidí usar unos pantalones vaqueros que tenía ya viejecitos como la tela principal del bolso. Aproveché los bolsillos traseros para hacer unos compartimentos en el interior del bolso, y un bolsillo lateral que tenía el pantalón se convirtió en otro bolsillo exterior del bolso. ¿Qué os parece?

Dear all,
This week has been a bit too much for me, the children getting sick, several visits to the hospital, trying to study for an exam next week... But thank God everything is going better now, fingers crossed.
And today I wanted to show you a bag I made several weeks ago. This was a present for my dear sister back in Spain.
I used several hexagons I had been making with some scraps of fabric from old projects, I could never find the right project for them till now. For the main fabric I used an old pair of  jeans. I managed to recycle the back pockets for the inside of the bag and a side pocket for the outside. I am very happy with the result! Hope you like it too.

Halloween

Hola a todos,

Nos queda nada para Halloween, la noche de todos los Santos. Aquí en Irlanda, el mundo celta, se celebra muchísimo como os podéis imaginar y a los niños les encanta. En fin, que rodeada ando estos días de murciélagos que cuelgan de los marcos de las puertas, de telarañas enormes y de una inmensa araña negra con patas que se extienden por todo el techo del salón. Y en la escalones de la escalera me han salido ratones, muy cucos ellos, pintados de negro y esperando a que caiga la noche del 31 y su famoso "Trick or treat". :o)
Y de costura bien poco porque vuelvo a tener exámenes, pero no me he podido resistir a hacer otra calabazita de Halloween, un poquito diferente y más grande a las del año pasado. ¿Qué os parece? Y he sido muy requetebuena y os he preparado un tutorial. Pulsad aquí para ir a la página de Tutoriales. Siento no haberos dado más tiempo, pero bueno, se hace superrápido.

Halloween is just around the corner... again. I like it. I don´t know why because at the same time the month of November makes me a bit sad and I can´t stop thinking about my Dad... But, I suppose having kids around is really great and specially if you are into crafts.
I haven´t had much time to do any major sewing these days, back to my exams :o(. But my house is now dutifully decorated for Halloween, surrounded by cob webs, big spiders hanging from the ceiling and small tiny mice at the stairs... all waiting for the Trick or treat night.
I have managed to make another pumpkin for the little collection I started last year. And this time I have put together a tutorial, available in English and Spanish here. I know I haven´t given you much time, sorry, but it is really a very quick project.

Tutorial - Carpeta portaproyectos (Carry-all Bag)

Hola amigos,

Hoy me gustaría presentaros mi primer tutorial. Se trata de una carpeta portaproyectos de patchwork para cuando vayáis a esos cursillos superinteresantes u os tengáis que desplazar con vuestra labor.

Este proyecto me lo fui inventando sobre la marcha y utilizando las telas que tenía en la casa, no tuve que comprar nada especial. Es el primer tutorial que os preparo y me hace mucha ilusión. Os pido perdón por los errores que haya podido cometer. Si algo no está clarito, no dudéis en contactarme.

Va de bolsos

It's a bag...

Hola a todos,
Ya hace tiempo que no os cuento nada, perdonadme pero después de las vacaciones, la vuelta al cole y al trabajo, me queda poco tiempo para el ordenador. El mismo dilema de siempre: ¿coso o me pongo a blogear?
Bueno, ahora he querido mostraros lo que he estado haciendo en las últimas semanas. Y la cosa va de bolsos. A ver qué os parecen.

I haven't forgotten about you, really, believe me... I am just overloaded with my September routine, you know, the usual... end of summer holidays, children back to school, the office, the studying... little time for the computer. And then when I do have the time to sit down, I'd rather be doing some stitching.
During the last few weeks I have been working on some bags. I am pretty happy with the result, have a look, I hope you enjoy them.

There is a summer project organised by Anna Orduña and it looks really nice, fresh and modern. The website is in Spanish but don´t let that stop you, the pictures are easy to follow. You don´t need to join any group, blog or anything. I think I will give it a try but it might be autumn before I put my hands on it...

Sin la máquina de coser

WITHOUT MY SEWING MACHINE

Buenas a todos,
No sé por qué pero este verano está siendo poco productivo. Apenas he tocado la aguja, aunque tengo ganas, no os creáis. Yo prefiero coser a mano, pero la verdad es que echo de menos mi máquina de coser, para avanzar más rápido en algunos tramos. Este verano decidí poner al día la máquina de coser de mi madre que está impecable. Fue un regalo de mi abuela a mi madre en el año 1977. Si la viérais... Tiene el manual de instrucciones supernuevo y la mini caja de herramientas que venía con la máquina incluye la lista original de los componentes que venían con ella.
Cargada de buenas intenciones la he engrasado y preparado para poder trabajar con ella este verano. Pero lo encuentro muy difícil, es eléctrica pero de pedal manual y rueca. No me aclaro y se me atasca mucho, cada dos por tres tengo que quitar la bobina y desmontar el atasco. Aquí os enseño unas fotitos para que veáis qué maravilla.

I am not sewing as much as I would like this summer and I don´t know why. I really enjoy sewing by hand but I think I am actually missing my sewing machine, for those bits in which you can really speed up. This summer I have tried to use my mum´s sewing machine. I still remember when my nanny gave it to her as as present. The year was 1977. It is very well kept and my mum still has the original instructions booklet. But I´m finding it really hard to use. Although it is an electric machine, you have to press the pedal with your foot and use the right motion and balance if you want to sew. I love the idea of using it but I think I´m giving up for this summer... too hot to be struggling with her. Have a look at the pictures, I still think it is beautiful.
